The Many Races of Xaltoria

The Many Races of Xaltoria
Below are the 12 races of Xaltoria.  

 

 


Under Dwarves (found only in Karatta)
Appearance:
Under Dwarves have thick hair on their head, eyebrows and faces. They are generally very stocky and strong, and stand between 3 feet and four feet 5 inches tall. They have very broad features and the women have facial hair as well. Their skin ranges from pale to black. Hair colors generally are shades between white and black.

About their Home:
Under Dwarves can be found deep under the mountain range called Veronai's Whip. Their village, Dar'Kitha, can be found at the bottom of a very long and treacherous tunnel into and under the mountain. The village itself is made up of a network of various sized caverns. Like their ancestors, the Mountain Dwarves, they are very good at working with metal and stone that is amply demonstrated by the architecture of their buildings.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as short tempered, loud, rude, obnoxious, stubborn, hateful, vicious, malicious, spiteful and untrustworthy.

Under Dwarves do well as: Necromancers, Dark Priests, Hell Raisers and Armsmen.

Under Dwarves can choose to be an Armsman, Commoner, Necromancer, Dark Priest, Hell Raiser or Rogue.

General Observations:
Under Dwarves have been so corrupted by the energies of the Rift that the magical ability they once used in the name of Xaltion has been twisted and is now used in the form of Necromancy. Hateful and vengeful, the Under Dwarves generally care little about crafting things that do not help them maim or kill.

Mountain Dwarves

Appearance:
Mountain Dwarves have thick hair on their head, eyebrows, and face. They are generally very stocky and strong, and vary from three feet to four feet five inches tall. They have very broad features and the women have facial hair as well. Skin tones are from pale to dark brown. Hair colors are generally shades of black and brown, but occasionally shades of red and blonde as well.

About their Home:
Mountain Dwarves are found in the Kingdom of Lazaron. Their village, Chelsa, is inside Mt. Iceback. The mountain range itself is one of the largest and highest. The top of the range is nothing but ice, which led to it being named Mt. Iceback. It is very cold in this region.
In addition to being the biggest and highest range, Mt. Iceback is also located very close to the Rift. Though the Mountain Dwarves have inhabited the range for hundreds of years, little exploration has been done to the outside of the mountain. The inside of the mountain has many caverns, underground rivers, and lakes that the dwarves themselves have yet to explore.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as short tempered, loud, rude, obnoxious, stubborn, loyal, steadfast, courageous and honorable.

Mountain Dwarves do well as Parsons, Holy Knights, Bards and Armsmen.

Mountain Dwarves can choose to be a Parson, Holy Knight, Bard, Armsman, Rogue or Commoner.

General Observations:

Mountain Dwarves are known for their devotion to Xaltion and/or his aspects, and are proud to be the first race created. They are very talented at trade skills, especially those having to do with metal or rock. They are only average when it comes to working with wood however, as there are few trees in the immediate area.

Gnomes
Appearance:
Gnomes are short and fair skinned. They vary in height from approximately two feet five inches to three feet five inches. They are generally slender but slightly rounded which can occasionally make them appear to be a little pudgy. Hair colors range from black to white with all the shades in between.

About their Home:
The Gnomes are classified as Fae along with Pixies and Sprites, and can be found living in and on Mt. Clearwater. Their city is a marvel of mechanical contraptions and inventions. The Gnomes like to travel and have thoroughly explored most of their Mountain and the surrounding forest. They are reported to be trying to figure out a way to investigate the bottom of Clearwater Lake.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as insanely curious, never ending conversationalists, fast-talking, confusing, strange, hyperactive, excitable, and a bit flaky.

Professions Gnomes do well as:
Summoners, Enchanters, Rogues and Commoners.

Gnomes can choose to be a Armsman or Commoner.

General Observations:
Gnomes are known for their mechanical creations. They are the only race able to use the Tinkering skill. They are innately curious, intelligent, and bursting with energy. Because of their small size, they do better at magical arts and those requiring great dexterity.

High Elves
Appearance:
High Elves are tall, slender and usually have pale to light skin. Their hair is predominantly light, ranging from white to light brown at the darkest and they range in height from 5 foot '7 inches to 6 foot 8 inches tall with sharply pointed elongated ears. They are very long lived but seldom show their age.

About their Home:
High Elves can be found in Quenae which is located in Xaltion's Glade. The name is deceiving, as the forest is huge and spans over most of the southern part of Lazaron. Quenae is located close to the sea, and as such, the plant life and creatures are different from what may be found further inland. Their village is considered one of the most beautiful and cleanest in all of Lazaron.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as snobbish, quiet, very private, highly intelligent, mystical, graceful, loyal, honorable and good to a fault.

Professions High Elves do well as:
Summoners, Enchanters, Bards and Parsons.

Professions High Elves can choose include Summoner, Enchanter, Bard, Armsman, Parson, Holy Knight and Commoner.

General Observations:

High Elves are agile and quick, but not particularly strong fighters. They have an innate ability to control and harness the magical energies of the world, and are generally perfectionists. They are very intelligent, and usually keep to themselves, preferring the company of their own kind.

Humans
Appearance:
Humans come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. They are generally between four feet and seven feet five inches tall. Their hair and skin colors vary greatly.

About their Home:
Humans in Lazaron are found in Laraville, one of the most centrally located villages in the Kingdom. Laraville boasts one of the largest ports and is quickly becoming the trade capital of Lazaron. Supported largely by travelers and fishing, Laraville has the potential to grow into a great city.  In Karatta, they are found in the city of Karattan.

Humans are short lived compared to many of the other races, and generally seem to be in a rush to get things done. This leaves their small village with great potential, but in need of much repair and organization. They are surrounded on three sides by the great forest, Jenivah's Recluse, and on the fourth by Toita's Chalice, the largest and deepest fresh water lake in Lazaron.

Personality and Professions:
Humans do well at most professions because they are so well rounded. Merchant, Monk, Armsman and Bard would be good choices.

Other races describe them as unpredictable.

General Observations:

Humans are diverse in all areas of their lives. They have many different features and can do well in almost any profession. Humans are also the only race that can choose to be a Monk. Due to their diversity and marked unpredictability, Humans are one of the hardest races to classify or about which to make absolute observations. One human may be one way, while another is the opposite.

Pixies
Appearance:
Pixies are very colorful creatures. They are extremely tiny, ranging from one foot five inches to about two feet tall, and are the smallest race on Xaltoria. They have wings that vary in shape and color. Their skin and hair can be any color of the rainbow.

About their Home:
Pixies live in Avendae, an extraordinary village located in the southwestern part of Lazaron near the small Fae mountain range. Having their own special way with nature, the Pixies live in giant mushrooms they grow with magical means. Their dwellings are so small that only gnomes and dwarves can fit into their dwellings. They really have no urge to travel far out of their homeland.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as colorful, gentle, sweet, mischievous, energetic, strange, unique, graceful and honorable.

Pixies do well as Rogues, Enchanters, Summoners and Druids.

Pixies can choose to be an Armsman, Commoner, Enchanter, Summoner, Rogue, Druid or Ranger.

General Observations:
Pixies are gentle creatures for the most part unless their homeland is threatened. They are very small but extremely agile and quick and can be nearly impossible to hit if they train properly. They are one of the most powerful races in the magical arts. They also have a quaint relationship with nature, which includes plants and animals. The Pixies are one of the three Fae races in Lazaron.

Sprites
Appearance:
Sprites, like their Pixie cousins, are very colorful. They are not short like the Pixies, but are rather tall and slender. Sprites generally range from five feet to six feet tall when full grown. Sprites have skin color that varies but mostly revolves around earth tones. Their hair reflects these colors as well.

About their Home:
Sprites are found in the southeast region of Lazaron. Located in the middle of Parotai's Forest, you will find a delicately crafted collection of huts and structures they call Desta. Sprites, like Pixies, are very connected with the forest and nature on a close and personal level, and because of this, make excellent Summoners. This is also reflected in their homes that are generally made with conventional materials, but are made to blend into the environment so well as to be almost invisible.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as colorful, quiet, reclusive, and mysterious.

Sprites do well as Druids, Rangers and Summoners.

Sprites can choose to be a Ranger, Druid, Armsman, Commoner, Enchanter or Summoner.

General Observations:
The Sprites keep very much to themselves. Known for being extremely quiet, this is only true when around other races. When amongst their own, sprites are very social and energetic creatures. Sprites are more comfortable with the land and nature than with other intelligent creatures. This is reflected in their tendency to avoid of the rest of the world.

Tree Elves
Appearance:
Tree Elves are a bit shorter and stockier than their ancestors, the High Elves. Ranging from four feet to five feet five inches tall, they are generally very lean and muscular. Their skin is golden to dark brown, and their hair is blonde to dark brown. Although the Tree Elves have elongated and pointed ears, they are somewhat shorter and more rounded than those of the High Elves. Their features are well defined.

About their Home:
Tree Elves can be found in the northwestern reaches of Lazaron in the tree village of Qwaylan. The entire village is located in the oldest and largest treetops of most ancient part of Jenviah's Recluse and is a marvel of adaptation. Using their uncanny magical connection with the land, the Tree Elves have managed to convince the trees to grow around their structures resulting in a highly defendable and almost invisible village.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as reclusive, quiet, fast, dependable and loyal.

Tree Elves do well as Rangers, Druids and Rogues.

Tree Elves can choose to be a Bard, Ranger, Druid, Rogue, Armsman or Commoner.

General Observations:
The Tree Elves are extremely agile and dexterous which, combined with their accurate eyesight, and makes them formidable archers. They are not overly strong and are generally quiet and prefer to stay near their homes or in the forests. Their connection with nature makes them natural druids and unmatched in scouting abilities.

Stone Elves (found only in Karatta)
Appearance:
Stone Elves stand between five feet five inches and six feet eight inches tall. They are generally of slender build and very agile. Their skin is somewhat of a marvel. Having been forced to live underground for hundreds of years before finding their way to the surface, the Stone Elves were affected drastically by the Rift's energies. Their skin has taken on the appearance of various kinds of stone, anything from gray granite to white marble. Their veins are often the color of precious metals like gold, silver, and pewter. Their eyes too have taken on shades of precious stones from diamonds to various shades of sapphires. Their hair varies in the more normal color spectrum of white to black and is known to be worn in dread locks.

About their Home:
Found in the village of Val'Krix, the Stone Elves share the huge mountain range of Veronai's Whip with the Under Dwarves, however, the villages are at a great distance from each other. They are not overly fond of one another and rivalry for complete possession of the range often results in small skirmishes.

The Stone Elf village itself indeed rivals the Under Dwarves in architectural genius and design. Not having lost all of their appreciation for beauty, the Stone Elves express their creativity in their buildings.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as quiet, malicious, devious, hateful, spiteful, deadly, ruthless and self-destructive.

Stone Elves are best as Rogues, Necromancers, Gypsies and Dark Priests.

Stone Elves can choose to be a Commoner, Armsman, Summoner, Enchanter, Rogue, Dark Priest, Gypsy, Necromancer or Hell Raiser.

General Observations:
The Stone Elves are possibly one of the most vicious creatures in Karatta. Having no love for anything or anyone, not even their own kind, they are spiteful and devious to a fault. Their favorite patron Aspect is usually Veronai due to her vengeful nature.

Goblins (found only in Karatta)
Appearance:
Goblins stand about 3 feet to 4 feet tall. They can be skinny, fat, or fit. Their skin is usually very rough and leathery and can be any shade of brown, green, or gray. They're sparse hair is usually in shades of brown, black, green, white or gray. They have extremely large eyes and slit pupils.

About their Home:
Goblins, being part of the Chaos Legions, are found in their village of Gecktof in the southern region of Karatta. The village itself is nothing more than a collection of mud huts and hovels surrounded by dangerous swamps and jungle.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as greedy, surprisingly resourceful, ruthless and vicious if cornered.

Professions they are best suited for include Merchant, Witch Doctor, Rogue and Trade.

General Observations:
Goblins generally have no real desire to kill things unless they are threatened. Being the only race of the Chaos Legions that have the capacity to be merchants, Goblins are very resourceful and quick to recognize a deal that could be of benefit to them.

Orcs  (found only in Karatta)
Appearance:
Orcs stand between six feet and seven feet five inches tall. They are usually fairly fit, with broad facial features that could remind someone of a pig. Their skin is oily and lacks pores, which produces a slick look. Their skin color can be shades of gray, brown, and black and their hair is usually black or brown. Their eyes are very small and round.

About their Home:
Orcs are part of the Chaos Legions and are found in the southern reaches of Karatta in their village, Eckfar. Being more intelligent than the other races of the Legions, the orc village is somewhat more structured, but still consists of mostly shacks and tents. Being that the village is located in Meckin's Swamp, it has a decent sized port that is an active tool in trade and transportation.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as impatient, vicious, ruthless and violent.

Orcs are good as Necromancers, Armsmen and Hell Raisers.

Orcs can choose to be a Rogue, Armsman, Necromancer, Witch Doctor or Hell Raiser.

General Observations:
Orcs are the only race of the Legions that can cast magic. Because of this, they feel they 'lead' the Chaos Legions. Ogres and Goblins don't always agree with that statement. Orcs are very vicious creatures, having no mercy or particular liking for anything or anyone.

Ogres  (found only in Karatta)
Appearance:
Ogres are huge. By far the largest race in the known world, they range between 6 feet 5 inches and 8 feet 5 inches tall and are generally very muscular or very fat. They have sharp teeth which they file themselves, small round eyes, and tough skin that is like leather to the touch. Their skin tone is usually pale to brown. Their hair grows in odd patches and ranges from brown to black.

About their Home:
Ogres inhabit Gorfa which is in the Southern region of Karatta with the rest of the Chaos Legions. Their dwellings usually consist of piled up rocks with makeshift roofs and leave much to be desired to most races. The Ogres prefer things simple so they do not get confused. They have little affection for pretty or, for that matter, clean things.

Personality and Professions:
Other races describe them as brutish, vicious, stupid, slow learning, incredibly strong, gullible and violent.

Ogres make good Armsmen.

Ogres can choose to be an Armsman, Hell Raiser, Commoner: Farmer, Tailor, Carpenter, or Blacksmith.

General Observations:
Ogres are not very smart. In fact, they are down right stupid. However, in melee combat, they are a force to be reckoned with and are generally concerned with nothing more than combat.
